JR to Minatomirai Line at Yokohama Station

How to change from JR lines to the Minatomirai Line at Yokohama Station, for Minato Mirai, Motomachi-Chukagai and Chinatown. The platforms are deep underground; allow about 5–10 minutes.

The Minatomirai Line shares an underground station with the Tokyu Toyoko Line, deep below the middle of Yokohama Station. Leave JR and follow the signs for the Minatomirai Line or Tokyu Line down to their gates.

Because the platforms are several floors down, allow about 5–10 minutes. Minato Mirai Station is about 3 minutes away by train, and Motomachi-Chukagai (for Chinatown) is the end of the line.

  • Trains towards Motomachi-Chukagai stop at Minatomirai, Bashamichi and Nihon-odori on the way.
  • Trains in the other direction become the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Shibuya.

How do I get to Yokohama Chinatown from Yokohama Station?

Take the Minatomirai Line to Motomachi-Chukagai, the last stop. Chinatown is right outside.

Four JR gates

JR Yokohama has the North, Central North, Central South and South Gates. The right one depends on where you are going, so follow the line name on the signs.

East or west?

Sotetsu is on the west side. Keikyu is right beside JR. The Minatomirai Line is deep underground in the middle of the station.
