The Toei Oedo Line stop called "Shinjuku" is south-west of the JR station, next to the Keio New Line. The usual route is to leave JR through the South Gate, turn right, and follow the signs for the Keio New Line and Oedo Line.

The Oedo Line runs very deep, so the last part is a series of long escalators. Allow about 6–7 minutes, more at rush hour.

How do I get to Roppongi from Shinjuku?

The Toei Oedo Line runs from Shinjuku to Roppongi directly. Board the train heading for Yoyogi and Roppongi, not Tochomae.

Why are there two Oedo Line stations at Shinjuku?

The Oedo Line loops around central Tokyo and stops at both Shinjuku and Shinjuku-nishiguchi. They are different stations with different gates.

Several stations in one

JR, Odakyu, Keio, Tokyo Metro and Toei each run their own station at Shinjuku, with their own gates. Follow the line name on the signs, not just "Shinjuku".

Know your exit side

Odakyu and Keio are on the west side. The Toei Oedo and Shinjuku Lines are to the south-west. Picking the right side saves a long walk.

Use an IC card

Suica or PASMO lets you pass the transfer gates between companies without buying a new ticket each time.
