The Odakyu Line station is on the west side of Shinjuku, next to the JR station. You can change through a JR–Odakyu transfer gate without going outside, or exit JR at the West or South Exit and enter Odakyu's own gates.

Romancecar limited expresses to Hakone-Yumoto leave from the ground-level Odakyu platforms. Ordinary Odakyu trains also leave from the underground platforms, so check which level your train uses on the departure boards.

  • The transfer gate needs an IC card or an Odakyu ticket. If you have neither, exit JR first and buy a ticket at the Odakyu ticket machines.
  • The Romancecar needs a limited express ticket (reserved seat) on top of the normal fare. The Hakone Freepass covers the fare but not the Romancecar seat.

Which train goes from Shinjuku to Hakone?

Can I use Suica on the Romancecar?

Suica or PASMO pays the fare, but you also need a Romancecar limited express ticket for your seat.

Several stations in one

JR, Odakyu, Keio, Tokyo Metro and Toei each run their own station at Shinjuku, with their own gates. Follow the line name on the signs, not just "Shinjuku".

Know your exit side

Odakyu and Keio are on the west side. The Toei Oedo and Shinjuku Lines are to the south-west. Picking the right side saves a long walk.

Use an IC card

Suica or PASMO lets you pass the transfer gates between companies without buying a new ticket each time.
